Introduction
As we well know here at Powerclean Drainage solutions , one of the main causes relating to a blockage in your drain is fat, which over time creates the dreaded fat berg,
In this article, we’ll be looking at what a fatberg is, what causes them, and what can be done about them, so that, hopefully, you can avoid having a fatberg inconvenience you in the future.
A fatberg is a blockage in a drainage system that is made up of fats, oils and food waste When these materials accumulate, they solidify into something that can then prevent the drain from free flowing. They smell rancid and they're very difficult to break down and remove, But are no match against powerclean!!
Fact:One of the biggest fatbergs ever discovered was found by Thames Water under Whitechapel in London in 2017. It was a whopping 250 metres long, and 130 tonnes in weight!
HOW DO YOU PREVENT IT?
Always be mindful of what goes into your drainage system, Do not pour oils and fats down the drain along with food waste, try using a food strainer to prevent it going into the drainage system and always avoid flushing items such as sanitary products, wipes etc.
